Bumblefoot in pet rat – please help?!?
I have a 2 year old pet rat. He has struggled with bumblefoot despite all the changes to his cage, regular thorough cleaning of cage, using echinacea drops, various antibiotics and metacam to reduce the swelling. Also tried Blu-Kite (natural substance used on horses). The hind legs themselves (despite treatement and one flushing) are very swollen now and the sores themselves never heal up now. Also, he is starting to get a head tilt. The vet feels the infection has spread throughout his body. Despite all this he eats and drinks well, but just hobbles out of his tube every now and again for food, treats etc. The vet feels its time to put him down if the latest course of tablets don’t work. Please could you help with SERIOUS opinions only please. Thanks.
From what I read here you have tried every trick that one can find on the internet, and like most other rat keepers you are finding that nothing is working :*(
But I’ll bet you haven’t tried a holistic treatment yet?
Combine 1 drop of tea tree oil to 10 drops of distilled water in a small bottle. Shake the bottle and keep handy. Shake before each use and rub a drop of the mix into the Bumbles twice a day. Make sure your boy doesn’t lick the TTO mix.
There is still much hope for your boy to improve his health even though he is an old man. Just talk to Chuck at my group Holistarat http://groups.yahoo.com/group/holistarat who used holistic treatments to help his old, ailing, rat named Gus, to live to beyond 3 years old in comfort.
